چکیده

Currently favoured extensions of the Standard Model typically contain ` aton elds' de ned as elds with large vacuum expectation values (vevs) and almost at potentials. If a aton eld is trapped at the origin in the early universe, one expects `thermal in ation' to take place before it rolls away to the true vacuum, because the nite-temperature correction to the potential will hold it at the origin until the temperature falls below 1TeV or so. In the rst part of the paper, that expectation is con rmed by an estimate of the nite temperature corrections and of the tunneling rate to the true vacuum, paying careful attention to the validity of the approximations that are used. The second part of the paper considers topological defects which may be produced at the end of an era of thermal in ation. If the aton elds associated with the era are GUT higgs elds, then its end corresponds to the GUT phase transition. In that case, the abundance of monopoles and of GUT higgs particles will have to be diluted by a second era of thermal in ation (or perhaps some non-thermal analogue). Such an era will not a ect the cosmology of GUT strings, for which the crucial parameter is the

Some aspects of thermal inflation: The finite temperature potential and topological defects.

Currently favoured extensions of the Standard Model typically contain ‘flaton fields’ defined as fields with large vacuum expectation values (vevs) and almost flat potentials. If a flaton field is trapped at the origin in the early universe, one expects ‘thermal inflation’ to take place before it rolls away to the true vacuum, because the finite-temperature correction to the potential will hold...

Thermal inflation and the moduli problem.

In supersymmetric theories a eld can develop a vacuum expectation value M 10GeV, even though its mass m is of order 10 to 10GeV. The nite temperature in the early Universe can hold such a eld at zero, corresponding to a false vacuum with energy density V0 m 2 M . When the temperature falls below V 1=4 0 , the thermal energy density becomes negligible and an era of thermal in ation begins. It en...

Simulation and Optimization of a Naphtha Thermal Cracking Pilot Plant

In thermal cracking plants, it is desired to apply an optimal temperature profile along the reactor to minimize the operation cost. In this article a simulator is developed by the use of a mathematical model, which describes the static operation of a naphtha thermal cracking pilot plant. The model is used to predict the steady state profiles of the gas temperature and product yields. Using ...

Study of Stone-wales Defect on Elastic Properties of Single-layer Graphene Sheets by an Atomistic based Finite Element Model

In this paper, an atomistic based finite element model is developed to investigate the influence of topological defects on mechanical properties of graphene. The general in-plane stiffness matrix of the hexagonal network structure of graphene is found. Effective elastic modulus of a carbon ring is determined from the equivalence of molecular potential energy related to stretch and angular defor...

QSPR study on benzene derivatives to some physico-chemical properties by using topological indices

QSPR study on benzene derivatives have been made using recently introduced topological methodology. In this study the relationship between the Randic' (x'), Balaban (J), Szeged (Sz),Harary (H), Wiener (W), HyperWiener and Wiener Polarity (WP) to the thermal energy (Eth), heat capacity (CV) and entropy (S) of benzene derivatives is represented. Physicochemical properties are taken from the quant...
